How it works: a quick refresher
For the adult at the table. These are the rules the worksheet practices, followed by one problem worked from start to finish.
| Strategy | How it works |
|---|---|
| Multiply each place | 47 × 6 = 40 × 6 + 7 × 6 = 240 + 42 = 282. |
| Regroup as you go | 7 × 6 = 42: write 2, carry 4 to the tens, and add it after multiplying the tens. |
| Two partial products | For 36 × 24, multiply 36 by 4, then by 20, then add: 144 + 720 = 864. |
| The zero placeholder | On the second line of a 2-digit by 2-digit problem, write a 0 in the ones place first, because you are multiplying by tens. |
| Estimate | 36 × 24 is about 40 × 20 = 800, so 864 is reasonable. |
Worked example
Find 36 × 24.
- Multiply 36 by the 4 ones: 6 × 4 = 24, write 4 and carry 2; 3 × 4 = 12, plus 2 is 14. First partial product: 144.
- Multiply 36 by the 2 tens: write 0 in the ones place, then 6 × 2 = 12, write 2 and carry 1; 3 × 2 = 6, plus 1 is 7. Second partial product: 720.
- Add the partial products: 144 + 720 = 864.

Common questions
- Is there an answer key?
- Yes. Every worksheet has a matching answer key with each answer worked on the same grid or layout as the question. The worksheet ID printed at the bottom of each page pairs a sheet with its key.
- My child learned the area model. Can they use it here?
- Yes. The answer key shows only the final product, so any correct method works: the area model, partial products or the standard algorithm.
- Why does a page have only 12 problems?
- Each problem needs room underneath for the working, especially the 2-digit by 2-digit ones.
- How many different versions are there?
- About a million per skill. Each time you press the button the problems are generated fresh, so you can print a different version for every student, a retake, or another night of practice.
- Are the worksheets free?
- Yes. They are free to print and copy for your home or classroom, with no sign-up.
