How it works: a quick refresher
The rules this worksheet practices, then one problem worked from start to finish.
| Strategy | How it works |
|---|---|
| Line up the points | To add or subtract, write the numbers so the decimal points are in one column, then work from the right. |
| Fill empty places | 6.2 − 1.085 needs the empty places filled: write 6.200 − 1.085. |
| Count the decimal places | To multiply by a whole number, multiply, then give the product as many decimal places as the decimal factor. 2.45 × 16 has two. |
| Make the divisor whole | 14 ÷ 0.35: move both points two places right to get 1,400 ÷ 35. |
| Estimate the size | 14 ÷ 0.35 is a bit less than 14 ÷ 0.3, which is about 47, so an answer near 40 is reasonable. |
Worked example
Find 14 ÷ 0.35.
- 10.35 has two decimal places, so move both decimal points two places to the right.
- 20.35 becomes 35. Write 14 as 14.00, which becomes 1,400.
- 3Divide 1,400 by 35. 35 × 40 = 1,400.
- 4The quotient is 40. Check by multiplying: 0.35 × 40 = 14.

Common questions
- Is there an answer key?
- Yes. Every worksheet has a matching answer key with each answer worked on the same grid or layout as the question. The worksheet code printed at the bottom of each page pairs a sheet with its key.
- Why do some subtraction problems show thousandths on only one number?
- The other number has empty places there. 6.2 − 1.085 needs those places filled with zeros, so write 6.200 before subtracting. That is the step students most often skip.
- How many decimal places does a product have when you multiply by a whole number?
- The same number as the decimal factor. A whole number adds none. 2.45 × 16 has two decimal places: 245 × 16 = 3,920, so the product is 39.20, which is 39.2.
- How many different versions are there?
- About a million per skill. Each time you press the button the problems are generated fresh, so you can print a different version for every student, a retake, or another night of practice.
- Are the worksheets free?
- Yes. They are free to print and copy for your home or classroom, with no sign-up.
