How it works: a quick refresher

The rules this worksheet practices, then one problem worked from start to finish.

StrategyHow it works
10% is one tenthMove the decimal one place, or divide by 10. 10% of 80 is 8.
5% is half of 10%Find 10%, then take half. 5% of 80 is half of 8, which is 4.
25%, 50%, and 75% are quarters50% is half, 25% is a quarter, and 75% is three quarters. 25% of 80 = 80 ÷ 4 = 20.
20% is one fifthDivide by 5. 20% of 45 would be 9, and 20% of 80 is 16.
A percent is an amount out of 10010 out of 40 is 10 ÷ 40 = 1/4 = 25%. The answer is written 25%, not 25.
Work backward for the wholeIf 15 is 25% of the number, 15 is one quarter of it, so the number is 15 × 4 = 60.

Common questions

Is there an answer key?
Yes. Every worksheet has a matching answer key with each answer worked on the same grid or layout as the question. The worksheet ID printed at the bottom of each page pairs a sheet with its key.
Why do some answers have a percent sign and others do not?
When the question asks for a percent, the answer is written with the sign, such as 25%. When the question asks for a number of things, the answer is just that number.
Will any of these need a decimal or a fraction in the answer?
No. The numbers were chosen so every part, percent, and whole comes out as a whole number.
How many different versions are there?
About a million per skill. Each time you press the button the problems are generated fresh, so you can print a different version for every student, a retake, or another night of practice.
Are the worksheets free?
Yes. They are free to print and copy for your home or classroom, with no sign-up.
