6th Grade Multi-Digit Division Worksheets
Fresh practice, ready to print. Answer key included.
Dividing four-digit and five-digit numbers by a two-digit divisor with the standard algorithm. Two sections come out even. One section leaves a remainder. The quotient is at least 2, so the first step is a real division.

What's on the worksheet
- 4-digit ÷ 2-digit, no remainder
Problems such as 1,260 ÷ 15, which come out even.
- 5-digit ÷ 2-digit, no remainder
Problems such as 10,440 ÷ 24, which come out even.
- With remainders
Four-digit and five-digit dividends that leave a remainder greater than 0.
- Mixed practice
Even problems and remainder problems together.
How it works: a quick refresher
The rules this worksheet practices, then one problem worked from start to finish.
| Strategy | How it works |
|---|---|
| Estimate the first digits | Ask how many times the divisor fits into the first two or three digits of the dividend. |
| Multiply, subtract, bring down | After each quotient digit, multiply it by the divisor, subtract, and bring down the next digit. |
| The remainder is smaller than the divisor | If it is not, the last quotient digit can go up by one. |
| A zero in the quotient matters | If the divisor does not fit into the current number, write 0 in the quotient and bring down the next digit. |
| Check by multiplying | quotient × divisor + remainder should equal the dividend. |
Worked example
Find 1,260 ÷ 15.
- 115 goes into 126 eight times. Write 8 above the 6.
- 28 × 15 = 120, and 126 − 120 = 6. Bring down the 0 to make 60.
- 315 goes into 60 four times. 4 × 15 = 60, and 60 − 60 = 0.
- 41,260 ÷ 15 = 84. Check: 84 × 15 = 1,260.

Common questions
- Is there an answer key?
- Yes. Every worksheet has a matching answer key with each answer worked on the same grid or layout as the question. The worksheet code printed at the bottom of each page pairs a sheet with its key.
- Why are there no commas under the division bracket?
- Long division is worked one digit at a time, and a comma gets in the way of the places, so the dividend is written without one. 10234 under the bracket is the number 10,234.
- How do we check a remainder?
- Multiply the quotient by the divisor, then add the remainder. That should equal the dividend. The remainder has to be smaller than the divisor.
- How many different versions are there?
- About a million per skill. Each time you press the button the problems are generated fresh, so you can print a different version for every student, a retake, or another night of practice.
- Are the worksheets free?
- Yes. They are free to print and copy for your home or classroom, with no sign-up.
