How it works: a quick refresher
The rules this worksheet practices, then one problem worked from start to finish.
| Strategy | How it works |
|---|---|
| Find the place you are rounding to | For the nearest 10, look at the tens. For the nearest 100, look at the hundreds. |
| Look one place to the right | That digit decides. For the nearest 10 it is the ones digit. For the nearest 100 it is the tens digit. |
| 5 or more rounds up | This page uses half up. 65 to the nearest 10 is 70, and 150 to the nearest 100 is 200. |
| 4 or less stays | 64 to the nearest 10 is 60. 149 to the nearest 100 is 100. |
| Zeros fill the places you rounded off | 47 to the nearest 10 is 50. The ones digit becomes 0. |

Common questions
- Is there an answer key?
- Yes. Every worksheet has a matching answer key with each answer worked on the same grid or layout as the question. The worksheet ID printed at the bottom of each page pairs a sheet with its key.
- Which way does a 5 go?
- Up. 5, 15, and 25 round to 10, 20, and 30. 50, 150, and 250 round to 100, 200, and 300. Some textbooks call this rounding half up.
- Can an answer be 0 or 1,000?
- Nothing here rounds to 0, because the numbers start at 5 for tens and 50 for hundreds. 1,000 can be an answer, for example when 962 is rounded to the nearest 100.
- How many different versions are there?
- About a million per skill. Each time you press the button the problems are generated fresh, so you can print a different version for every student, a retake, or another night of practice.
- Are the worksheets free?
- Yes. They are free to print and copy for your home or classroom, with no sign-up.
