What's on the worksheet
- Missing factor
Equations such as ____ × 6 = 42 and 7 × ____ = 56.
- Missing number in division
Equations such as 56 ÷ ____ = 8 and ____ ÷ 7 = 4.
- Mixed equations
Multiplication and division equations with one number missing.
How it works: a quick refresher
The rules this worksheet practices, then one problem worked from start to finish.
| Strategy | How it works |
|---|---|
| Say the fact you know | For ____ × 6 = 42, ask what times 6 makes 42. 7 × 6 = 42, so the blank is 7. |
| The blank can sit on either side | 7 × ____ = 56 and ____ × 7 = 56 ask the same question. |
| Division is the fact backwards | For 56 ÷ ____ = 8, ask what number times 8 makes 56. The blank is 7. |
| A missing dividend is a product | For ____ ÷ 7 = 4, multiply the two numbers you can see: 7 × 4 = 28. |
| Factors stay from 2 to 10 | Every factor, divisor, and quotient on these pages is from 2 to 10. |
Worked example
Find the missing number: 7 × ____ = 56.
- 1Ask: 7 times what number makes 56?
- 2Count by sevens if you need to: 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49, 56. That is eight sevens.
- 3The missing number is 8.
- 4Check: 7 × 8 = 56.

Common questions
- Is there an answer key?
- Yes. Every worksheet has a matching answer key with each answer worked on the same grid or layout as the question. The worksheet ID printed at the bottom of each page pairs a sheet with its key.
- How does this connect to division?
- A missing factor is a division fact in disguise: 7 × ____ = 56 asks the same thing as 56 ÷ 7. Children who can do one can do the other, which is why both kinds share a page.
- Do these replace the times-table pages?
- No. They assume the facts are underway. A child who is stuck can turn the equation back into the multiplication fact it came from.
- How many different versions are there?
- About a million per skill. Each time you press the button the problems are generated fresh, so you can print a different version for every student, a retake, or another night of practice.
- Are the worksheets free?
- Yes. They are free to print and copy for your home or classroom, with no sign-up.
