How it works: a quick refresher

The rules this worksheet practices, then one problem worked from start to finish.

StrategyHow it works
Look at the tens firstThe tens digit tells which number is more. 71 is more than 34 because 7 tens is more than 3 tens.
Then look at the onesIf the tens match, compare the ones. 46 is more than 42 because 6 is more than 2.
= means the same number48 = 48. Both digits match.
The point faces the smaller number34 < 71. The open side of > faces the bigger number.

Common questions

Is there an answer key?
Yes. Every worksheet has a matching answer key with each answer worked on the same grid or layout as the question. The worksheet code printed at the bottom of each page pairs a sheet with its key.
Which digit do we look at first?
The tens digit. 71 is more than 68 even though 8 is more than 1, because 7 tens is more than 6 tens.
When do we write =?
Only when both numbers are the same, such as 25 and 25. The mixed section has a few of these. The other sections use two different numbers.
How many different versions are there?
About a million per skill. Each time you press the button the problems are generated fresh, so you can print a different version for every student, a retake, or another night of practice.
Are the worksheets free?
Yes. They are free to print and copy for your home or classroom, with no sign-up.
