How it works: a quick refresher
The rules this worksheet practices, then one problem worked from start to finish.
| Strategy | How it works |
|---|---|
| Count each group | Count the shapes in one group, then the other. |
| More means the bigger number | 7 is more than 4, so the group of 7 has more. |
| Fewer means the smaller number | 4 is fewer than 7. |
| Match them up | Pair one shape from each group. The group with shapes left over has more. |
Worked example
One group has 6 hearts. The other has 4 hearts. Which has more?
- 1Count each group: 6 and 4.
- 26 comes after 4 when you count, so 6 is more.
- 3Circle the group of 6.

Common questions
- Is there an answer key?
- Yes. Every worksheet has a matching answer key with each answer worked on the same grid or layout as the question. The worksheet code printed at the bottom of each page pairs a sheet with its key.
- What if my child picks the group that looks bigger?
- Matching helps: pair one shape from each group with a line. The group with shapes left over has more, however spread out it looks.
- Are the groups ever the same?
- Not on these pages. Every pair is different, so there is always one group with more.
- How many different versions are there?
- About a million per skill. Each time you press the button the problems are generated fresh, so you can print a different version for every student, a retake, or another night of practice.
- Are the worksheets free?
- Yes. They are free to print and copy for your home or classroom, with no sign-up.
