How it works: a quick refresher
The rules this worksheet practices, then one problem worked from start to finish.
| Strategy | How it works |
|---|---|
| Two partial products | Multiply by the ones digit first, then by the tens digit, then add. |
| The tens product starts with a zero | You are multiplying by tens, so write 0 in the ones place of that line before you begin. |
| Regroup as you go | When a product is 10 or more, write the ones digit and carry the tens to the next place. |
| Estimate first | 346 × 27 is about 300 × 30 = 9,000, so an answer near 900 or 90,000 needs another look. |
| Check the ones digit | The ones digit of the answer comes only from the ones digits of the factors. |
Worked example
Find 234 × 16.
- 1Multiply 234 by the 6 ones: 1,404. That is the first partial product.
- 2Multiply 234 by the 1 ten: write 0 in the ones place, then 234 × 1 = 234, so the second partial product is 2,340.
- 3Add the partial products: 1,404 + 2,340 = 3,744.
- 4234 × 16 = 3,744.

Common questions
- Is there an answer key?
- Yes. Every worksheet has a matching answer key with each answer worked on the same grid or layout as the question. The worksheet ID printed at the bottom of each page pairs a sheet with its key.
- How is this different from the grade 4 multiplication pages?
- Grade 4 stops at a one-digit factor, or at two digits times two digits. These pages are three-digit and four-digit numbers times a two-digit number.
- Can my child use an area model instead of partial products?
- Yes. The answer key shows only the final product, so any correct method is fine.
- How many different versions are there?
- About a million per skill. Each time you press the button the problems are generated fresh, so you can print a different version for every student, a retake, or another night of practice.
- Are the worksheets free?
- Yes. They are free to print and copy for your home or classroom, with no sign-up.
